September is Library Card Sign-Up Month

September is national library card sign-up month. To encourage Ponca City residents to visit their library and experience the joy and adventure that comes from having a library card, staff at the library have put together anonymous customer profiles which showcase the value of the Ponca City Library to specific customers and highlight the range of services offered.

Customer A:
This customer has several small children at home and uses the library for materials and programs, especially story time. Since 2013, this customer has checked out 874 items on their account and has paid fees to the library of $14.95 for lost and damaged books. This brings the total value of the library use to $2, 631.

Customer B:
This retired reader is a frequent library dweller and often checks out books for reading pleasure. Since 2013, this user has checked out 667 items at a value of $3,483.47 and has used the public meeting rooms in the library for personal use.

Customer C:
This teacher uses the library for both personal use and school-related use. Since 2013, this customer has checked out 1,480 items and has paid $5 in fees and fines. Total amount saved by being a library user is $3,086.11. This customer has also attended several library events such as murder mystery parties.

Customer D:
This movie lover is frequently in the library to borrow DVDs. Since 2013, this customer has checked out 717 items and has paid $138.49 in late dues and replacement fees. The total savings as a library user is $6,490.28. This user also frequently uses the InterLibrary Loan Service offered by the library, which is in addition to the total savings.

Customer E:
Always on the road for work, this customer uses the library primarily for audio books to listen to on the journey. Since 2013, this customer has checked out 277 physical listening items at a value of $1, 727.09.

The Ponca City Library is a general fund department of the City of Ponca City, funded by sales tax revenues, utilities, state aid, and grants and donations. The library features more than 80,000 physical items including books, audio books, DVDs, hands-on maker kits, magazines, local newspapers, and historical items for research such as the Ponca City News on microfilm.

The Ponca City Library also offers many learning opportunities through its website- www.poncacitylibrary.com including downloadable e-books, Rosetta Stone, Valueline Investment tools, access to practice tests for college and career entry exams, legal forms, auto repair information, and more.

The library has several trademark events such as the Summer Reading Program, Touch-A-Truck, Kids Rodeo, and Story Time. Throughout the entire year, the library offers interactive classes and events for all ages including guest speakers, art, book clubs, gardening, movies, computer classes, and more.

The Friends of the Library run an ongoing book sale with purchases that go back to supporting the library.

The library also houses the Matzene Art Collection.
