1. What stimulus funds did the Environmental Services Department receive?

The Environmental Services Department was awarded a projected total of $1,164,000. Among it, $267,000 was awarded through the Clean Water State Revolving Fund of the Oklahoma Water Resources Board for rehabilitating and upgrading the Brentwood Lift Station and for installing an emergency generator for the main lift station. In addition, $897,000 was awarded through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund of the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality for rehabilitating raw water transmission mains, installing two new 800 GPM water wells and a SCADA system, and replacing the Water Plant's lime softening system.

2. How much does the Wastewater Treatment Plant treat a day?

The Wastewater Treatment Plant currently treats an average of five million gallons per day and discharges the treated water to the Arkansas River.

3. What happens to the sludge that is produced at the Wastewater Treatment Plant?

Every year, approximately 500 tons of sludge is produced and converted in the treatment process from an undesirable waste to an environmentally-friendly soil enhancer. The City currently has 1,200 acres of private farm land permitted for the application of the treated sludge. At these application sites, various crops are grown, and the nutrients in the sludge are used by the crop just as commercial fertilizer is used.
