Juvenile Court

Juvenile Court Jurisdiction

The Ponca City Municipal Court and the Oklahoma Kay County District Court entered into an agreement over jurisdiction concerning juveniles pursuant to the Interlocal Cooperation Act by the State of Oklahoma. This agreement authorizes the Municipal Court to assume jurisdiction of certain specified juvenile misdemeanor offenders pursuant to agreements with the district court. All fines and costs will not exceed the statutory maximum authorized by law.

Juvenile Court is held the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month beginning at 8:30 am. There is an exception in October, November and December and it will be held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays. Juvenile Court is closed to the public.

Parents should also be aware that when they sign an agreement promising to have a minor child in Juvenile Court on a certain day, the failure to do so will result in a separate charge being filed against the parent, which can result in the maximum punishment allowable. The law also provides that the parents of a juvenile can be required to pay the unpaid fines incurred by their child in Juvenile Court.
