After the hiring authority selects the top candidate for a position, the Human Resources Department will conduct a background investigation which may include employment, driving history, criminal investigation, and other reports which may include information regarding character, work habits, performance and experience of past employment from previous employers. Certain positions require skill set testing. Following a job offer, candidates will also be required to successfully complete a city paid pre-employment drug screen and a physical for some positions
